Mountain View has a Quiet Room where students can practice mindfulness.

What is Mindfulness?

When someone is practicing mindfulness, they are present in the moment they are experiencing. Some people practice mindfulness through mediation or yoga-noticing their feelings, their thoughts, and how their body feels.

Why is it important?

Practicing mindfulness can positively affect all other executive functioning skills. Studies show that some benefits of mindfulness are:

  • reduced stress levels
  • improved health
  • improved working memory
  • decreased depressive symptoms
  • reduced anxiety
  • increased resilience
  • better self-regulation (self-control)
  • increased self worth
